Now booking for 2012 training starting in May! I have a small family owned barn about a half an hour away from Akron, Ohio. I offer training for problem horses, colt starting, foundation training, and trail riding horses of all ages. Tune ups are also available for horses that already know how to ride. When starting a horse I put a good foundation on them so they can later be finished to just about any discipline. I strive to send your horse back calm, respective of his or her handler, and responsive to your cues on the ground and in the saddle at a moments notice. I also do a lot of exercises from the saddle to guarantee softness and control of your horse. I understand all horses learn differently that is why I have multiple methods that best fit your horse. I have trained and competed on multiple breeds of horses and disciplines. I am currently an NBHA member and I run a barrel horse that I have trained myself. References are available upon requests. The goal in my program is to send all training horses back home with a solid foundation. All horses that come in for training go through a series of ground work to encourage respect for his or her handler and confidence when it comes to "scary" objects. I do this by teaching them not through force but rather repetition and using a method of sensitizing and desensitizing. When it comes time to start riding them I try to get them soft in their face and sides. As a result, they become extremely responsive and comply naturally to their cues, not radical or intimidated. I teach them to ride on a loose rein and perform the task without much help from the rider. After they have been in training for a while they all usually can go on and learn any discipline and perform according to their natural abilities. Being "broke" is the most important thing a horse can learn before becoming anything else.
