Volunteers are needed for therapeutic riding lessons in St Albert. Riding therapy makes use of functional riding skills to assist the disabled rider in achieving specific therapeutic goals. These riders need aid in giving the horse direction, or holding themselves in the correct position in the saddle. Volunteers experience close interaction with both the horses and disabled riders. They will learn to properly saddle and interact with and around horses, as well as safetly rules. It's a fun experience for everyone! Volunteers must be 13 or older.
During the one hour lessons volunteers will either lead the horse, or sidewalk with the rider. The leaders primary role is to maintain control of the horse, giving the rider assistance in turning, stopping and moving forward as needed. The sidewalkers primary duty is that of rider safety, assisting the rider in keeping balance and a secure position and in keeping the rider focussed.
