In years past Sun Valley has hosted a Summer Camp with several equestrian professionals and volunteers as instructors as well as certified Lifeguards. This year we have decided to do it again but we are hosting Equestrian Summer "Day" Camp only on Fridays nearly every "Friday" this Summer by appointment. We have to be certain we have enough adults to properly instruct all of the kids so appointments are neccessary. Our ages are 8 years old through 15 yrs old. Camp will start at 9am each morning (early drop offs for working parents may also be arranged) and will end at 4:30pm. Our campers will recieve hands on instruction in grooming and caring for horses, how to properly bridle and saddle a horse, how to tie a safety quick release knot. They will also learn about different breeds and colors of horses and about the different disciplines (riding types) for the show ring. Campers will also learn to ride horses, proper riding posture, hand placement and leg ques. Each camp day will consist of at least one hour of horse back riding. Several hours of horse related instruction and fun, a show and tell with animals at Sun Valley! (we have loads of farm animals and also exotic birds and reptiles! ) When the heat gets unbearable we will all load up and head for Sun Valley inground pool to cool off and have more fun and games!
The following is a list of items you child will need for Equestrian camp!
Jeans or riding breeches. (jeans must be lose enough to mount and dismount with ease) Shoes with a slight heel.. (cowboy boots, riding boots etc) gloves (optional) helmet( we have several at the farm to use but if your child has her own please send it with his/her name written on it) pack a lunch, drinks, and snacks if your child likes. We are not allowed to provide food.We will have coolers with ice for the campers to put thier stuff in. Please put all of your childs stuff into a lunch box or lunch bag with thier name on it. Campers will also need swim suits and if needed sunscreen. Towels and possibly a change of clothes like shorts/T shirt to wear when they get out of the pool. A signed release form with a copy of the child's health insurance card and several emergency contact numbers for parents.
This is a wonderful opportunity for your child to see what life is like on a horse farm. We have several new foals they will be allowed to work with and play with. The days at Sun Valley will be some of the high point and greatest Summer vacation memories ever! They will certainly have lots of wonderful stories to tell their friends and class mates! We have had several campers who later became members of our show team! The fee is $75 per child for the full day. For families with more than one child each additional child is just $60.
