Gandalf, Grey Thoroughbred For Sale in Georgia
$ 1,000 (Negotiable)
**Update: Thanks very much for all of the inquiries. Gandalf is pending placement in an adoptive home. Should you desire to be notified if this placement falls through, please let us know. And please click on the "All listings" link to see our other available horses.

Gandalf is now part of Herds of Hooves, a non-profit rescue here in Carnesville, GA. He has been with us for about 6 months now and I have known him for about 2 years prior to that. The history that I know is that he was originally off the track (and was successful as a racehorse) and was then trained for jumping and used extensively at an english barn in FL doing intermediate level jumping lessons and trail riding. He did that for approximately 3 years and was purchased by a 50-something year old lady who is barely 5 feet tall and a first time owner and novice rider. Some of her family moved to GA and she sent Gandalf along with them with the hope that she would follow soon after them and move to GA. That did not work out and he sat for about a year with the family, who was also new to horses. As a trainer I was called in about a year after they moved to GA for help with their other horse's riding skills and Gandalf's ground manners. I found him to be super intelligent and desperate for a job-- most of his behaviors were the product of seeking attention and needing to have something constructive to do. Over the next two years, I worked with the family's other horse and periodically worked with Gandalf to give him something to do. He was not ridden at all during that time and eventually the family convinced Gandalf's owner that he was being wasted. She signed him over to our rescue and I successfully used him as a lesson horse almost immediately even after a 3 year break from riding. His body and muscle tone needed rebuilding, but his behavior and etiquette under saddle were great. He knows his leads, apparently does have a rusty lateral, and happily jumps any obstacle without hesitation. He does not rush the jumps but seems to fully enjoy the process. Unfortunately, our main purpose is founder/laminitis rehabilitation and we therefore run a completely no-grass facility. He does fine in a herd other than often being the recipient of a mare's ill temper, but he really does need grass as part of his regular diet. He will survive almost completely on grass alone but, without grass, he needs a great deal of concentrate to keep his weight up. Therefore, we've decided to place him up for adoption instead of keeping him for a lesson horse. I am very regretful to have to give him up, as he does have a great work ethic and really enjoys work both in and out of the arena, but he needs a different type of facility than what we offer. We practice Progressive Horsemanship, a form of natural horsemanship, and he responds wonderfully to this type of handling. He can be nervous and fractious if handled roughly, but does need firm boundaries and a good leader or he becomes mischevious. He is completely effortless to groom, bathe, vet, trim, load, etc. He has had natural barefoot trimming for 3 years now and has wonderful feet. If really spooked, he has been known to pull back against his rope when tied, but I would not classify him as a pull-back. He trailers like a dream and has been loaded and unloaded multiple times on the side of a busy highway without a problem. He is completely polite taking a bit and during saddling and has been taught to drop his head for haltering and bridling. He rides in a snaffle bit with no extra headgear, though he has apparently ridden in a martingale before-- I personally don't feel that he needs anything like that, just hands that know how to not pull and get in his mouth as he is pretty sensitive. He does not neck rein, but does not care whether he is ridden in an english saddle or a heavy stock saddle with all the rigging. He can be ridden at a walk, trot, and canter on a loose rein and shows no interest in speeding up, though he will move out if you tell him to do so. I think he would be fine with a confident beginner under the supervision of a trained instructor or with an intermediate/advanced owner who understands how to be firm without being aggressive. Natural handling methods would be a great asset as he's been handled this way for the past 3 years and has flourished under it. Gandalf is a truly wonderful horse who is up for adoption due to absolutely no fault of his own. There will be an adoption agreement that keeps him from going to auction or getting "lost in the system." He was purchased for over $3000, but his owner wanted to ensure that he would go to a good, permanent home when he left her care and that is why he was turned over to us. Please contact us with any questions, for pictures, or to meet Gandalf in person. He definately should be used and worked, as he's too nice a horse to sit in a pasture. Dixie, Red Roan Appaloosa For Sale in Georgia
$ 500
Dixie is a wonderful, stocky trail horse with many miles under her cinch. She is the type of horse who can take a lesser experienced rider out and build their confidence while still being a great ride for the more seasoned rider. She's been used for the past couple of years as a lesson horse teaching basic horsemanship and walk/trot lessons. She is very easy to ride and both direct and neck reins. She will lope out if you really want her to, but prefers the nice, easy-going ride. She vets, trims, trailers, bathes, etc without incident. She is a former founder case who has been successfully rehabilitated, but does need to put on her Easy Boots on her front feet when she rides on rough ground and should not be on grass. She's extremely easy to keep and has many years of good riding left in her. She does wear a fly mask as she has pink skin around her eyes that is bothered by the sun, but has no trouble keeping it on and appreciates it. Her eyes are slow to adjust to changing light (ie, going from the lighted barn out the the pasture after dark) and she should be given some consideration there, but it does not cause her a problem. She is being offered for placement because she really prefers to work with the same person-- changing from person to person in a lesson program is not her favorite, though she does it without complaint, and she tries to bond with each person individually. She would shine with her own person as she puts a great deal of trust in her person. She is part of Herds of Hooves, a small rescue here in GA, and is being offered for adoption. There will be an adoption agreement that keeps her from going to auction or being "lost in the system." Please contact us with questions, for pictures, or to meet Dixie or click on our link to see our other listings and meet our other horses looking for placement.

SOLD! Phoenix, Golden Champagne Quarter Horse Cross For Sale in Georgia SOLD!
$ 500
**Update: Phoenix is pending placement and is out on trial-- but please contact us or check out our other horses who need homes!

Phoenix is a bulldog-built grade QH golden champagne-colored mare. She is a wonderful, willing horse who needs a firm, but gentle leader. She is really well built and does great on trails. She's had a history of neglect from her previous life years ago, but has been pampered and loved for many years now. She was ridden in competitive trail classes and used to work other horses on the rudimentary level, but has been lolling on pasture for a bit now. Though she is completely sound and sure-footed, she has no real interest in fast work and-- though she'll go along if encouraged-- would much rather stroll down a trail than run around a barrel. She's being offered for adoption because she's not currently being used and is truly too good of a horse to not be utilized. She can be pushy with a beginner, so she's being offered as an intermediate or above horse to someone who can maintain consistant boundaries with her. A least-resistance method of handling in a good home is required for Phoenix as, for the past 6 years, this is the only type of handling she's had and responds to it very well. She also has a 17" A-fork custom made for her western saddle that is also available to go with her for an additional cost. Pictures and further information are available upon request.

Knight, Seal Brown Quarter Horse For Sale in Georgia
$ 1,000
Knight is a Wisecamp-bred QH with the classic Skipper W look. He will turn 4 this year and has had the past year off after being started under saddle last year. Knight is an extremely sensitive, intelligent horse who will need a job. His mind is amazing and he constantly looks for what you are asking. He has been started in Progressive Horsemanship (a type of natural horsemanship) and is impeccable on the ground, yeilding his hinds and fronts lightly and moving laterally with no problem. He catches easily, stands for vet/farrier like a pro, self-loads onto a trailer and backs off with no problem. He's great in a herd and consistently demonstrates a natural "cowiness" though he's never been trained for it. He needs a person with a level head and a light hand, as he's too intelligent a horse to be handled roughly and tolerate it. He's ready to begin his riding career and would do best with a job of some sort, as he gets bored easily. No vices at all to speak of. The farrier doesn't even halter him to trim his feet, which are some of the most naturally beautiful the farrier says he's ever seen. We'll be happy answer any questions. He's absolutely gorgeous. His price is an attempt to make sure he goes to the right home. It would be negotiable to an extent to an exceptional home.

Abednego, Buttermilk Buckskin Mustang For Sale in Georgia
$ 450
*Click the "All listings by this seller" link to see our other horses looking for homes!

**Update: Abednego's pending placement has fallen through, so he is still currently available!

Abednego is a beautiful buttermilk buckskin titled BLM mustang gelding. He's been in domestication for about a year and a half and has learned to do ground work, handle feet, stand for the vet/farrier, and carry a blanket and saddle. He ties fine and will also stay in a stall without a problem or load onto a trailer. He's had his teeth floated once and handled it with no problem. Bedn is a wonderful young horse who is very trusting and even-tempered, while still maintaining the sensitivity wonderful to mustangs. I have students who regularly catch and groom him. He's now ready to begin his actual saddle training and, with a quiet-handed person, should come along quite easily. Least-resistance handling is all that Bedn has known and his home should be able to continue that or hire a trainer who will do his saddle starting with that methodology. He is truly an amazing horse and will make a wonderful partner. Finances and time constraint are the only reasons this horse is being offered for adoption through Herds of Hooves. Pictures and further information are available upon request.

1990 Bee 4HGNSL horse trailer $5000 obo in USA/Canada
in Horse Trailers
$ 5,000
Up for sale is a very sturdy '90 model Bee 4h SL. It has a very roomy interior with overall inside dimensions of 7'h x 7'w. The padded dividers are removable and included for each stall is an overhead two-way vent, drop down window on the front side, and slider window on the back side. The floors and sides of the trailer are mat-covered and the front wall is padded. Bars cover all windows for safety. The dutch-style back door can be fully closed or the top portion can be removed for even more airflow. There is also a front stall escape door. The rear locking tack compartment has 4 saddle racks and 8 tack hooks. Up front is a dressing area with a locking door. There is a slider window in the door, two sliders on each side of the goose neck, a camper vent overhead, and two windows directly in the front of the goose. There are also plenty of tack hooks in this area, along with a hanging rod and cubby cabinet for stowing supplies. The previous owner also added a wall unit air conditioner. Up front there is a mounting place for a spare tire (there is not one with the trailer) and the goose neck is adjustable. The trailer comes with safety chains and a locking hitch pin. It has been rewired in the past couple of years with the wiring mounted along the hub for easy access. All lights inside and out work except for one tail light (there are 4) that is blown and a loose wire in the horse area that makes the light erratic, but this could likely be easily fixed. The light in the dressing area works well and is BRIGHT. The outside of the trailer is great and there is only surface rust on the inside, nothing that affects the integrity of the trailer. There are a couple of dings here and there, but just cosmetic and overall it is a great looking trailer. Please feel free to ask any questions as this is a private sale of a used trailer and is therefore sold as-is. We bought the trailer second hand a little over 4 years ago from a gentleman who bought it from a dealership. It's a great trailer that I hate to see go; however, we are like many others and must sell in order to buy and would like to have a smaller trailer with a ready LQ to suit our current needs. We are asking $5000 obo. Thanks very much for looking! **Pictures are not wanting to upload-- if you'd like to see pictures, feel free to request by email or go to the link here to see pictures: http://atlanta.craigslist.org/atl/grd/1472189372.html
