Thurston, Black Friesian For Sale in California
$ 18,900 (Price is Firm)
Lovely All Around Pleasure/Trail/Dressage/ Family Horse fully vetted on Sept 14, 2009, and was clean on xrays in June, 2005.

This mature and experienced gelding has an Incredible Pedigree!!!!!!!

Motherline couldn't be better: STER-MODEL+Pref-STER+Pref-STER

Thurston is intelligent and friendly, a compact-built gelding with noble and impressive looks, correct and strong, correct conformation--a gorgeous Friesian, a real head -turner. Lots of mane with a long forelock heavy tail and feathered legs. He has outstanding ground manners, being very respectful of his handler's and their personal space. His compact conformation allows him to bring his hind legs well under himself. His movement is very swingy and light.

Thurston is a lovely forward moving Friesian, not a spooky horse, he's not a lazy Friesian with no forward, that requires whips and spurs. He has quite a bit of experience in harness. He drives as a single, in pairs and as a 3-in-hand (two wheel horses, one in front). He also competed in marathon competitions in pair, winning several!

Thurston's sire is the sadly no longer living approved stallion, Thomas. Thomas is also the sire of our new show horse, Chopard ( see "Our Horses"). Thomas offspring are rare in this country and cherished. Thomas 327 is out of mare stam-line 50, a very influential dam line. This Stam-line 50 has produced 21 approved stallions. At Thomas' Performance Test in 1993, it was noted that he is a well-balanced, slightly bold and intelligent stallion. He was approved on offspring in 1997. The judges stated that the collection of inspected offspring "had nice jet black color with nice feathers, mane and tail. The development was more than sufficient. Some horses were very appealing with attentive eyes and friendly ears. The quality of the legs and hoofs was good. The formation of the foreleg was correct in general, and the foreleg was sufficiently long, and had a nice forward movement. The use of the hind legs was sufficient." Thurston is no exception, he is just like his daddy!

Thurston is a Full Papered FPS/FHANA Studbook Gelding (Mother-line is Ster - Model+Pref - Ster+Pref - Ster).

1999 Foal Inspection: Second Premie

DOB: June 13, 1999

In-Breeding Co-efficient: 3.71%

Thurston's Dam-Sire is Peke 268. The Friesian Stallion Book states about Peke: "Peke 268 (died 6/30/97) was very important in the breeding of the Friesian Horse, as the Age-line has always been considered to have special value in pushing back the inbreeding . . . Peke is important for bringing new blood, if we want to avoid the Tetman-blood, and his offspring performs well in the sport."

Dressage riders that have shown Thurston have all really loved him and were thrilled with how quickly he learns---- doing all kinds of things in a short period of time. From lateral movements- to his really nice canter, Thurston is a forgiving horse that is super sweet, kind, and giving, wanting to please his rider at all times.
See blacksterlingfriesians.com for more pictures and lots of videoclips, or call 415-461-5516 (details)

Stormy Seas STER, Black Friesian For Sale in California
$ 24,900 (Price is Firm)
Rare opportunity to acquire one of our "keeper" horses. Stormy is one of the most winning saddleseat and driving Friesians shown on the west coast, and in the country. Originally shown in Friesian under saddle classes by Janna, Stormy has spent the last few years being ridden in Open English Pleasure classes by a junior rider, Julia Goldman, and is competing successfully on the USA Equestrian "A" circuit, winning at EVERY major west coast show, and has been wildly successful with Blu at the helm in driving classes. There are literally no more hurdles to conquer for us with this boy, we have won in nearly every division, at every show attended, INCLUDING the last two IFSHA Friesian Grand Nationals we attended...where Stormy walked away with numerous World and National Championships for his performances in: In Hand Amateur Handler, Amateur Pleasure Driving, Jr Exhibitor Saddleseat Pleasure, Ride and Drive, Saddleseat Equitation, etc. There is no question, Stormy is one of the MOST decorated and successful friesian show horses in the country, and he has been a lovely member of our family for the past several years--trailering to national parks, where Julia rides him on our family trail rides. We have made the difficult decision to allow someone else to enjoy this gorgeous long haired STER gelding, as Julia is now away at college. He will be sold to an approved home only---we love this horse.

Stormy is registered as Ronald van de Zuiderwaard, and he was a winner from the beginning AND he was bred to be a champion. Stormy's full sister is the dam to the newly approved stallion, Loadewyck 431!!! As a mere 3 yr old, Stormy was also selected to be a provisionally Approved stallion and he completed the 70 Day test. Unfortuantely the Judges decided he was a bit too "feminine" , and he was later castrated, and he embarked on a successful sjees driving career in Holland.

We imported this tall, gorgeous STER gelding, and began immediately cleaning up with him in Open English Pleasure classes against all other breeds, including Saddlebreds. Stormy is a REAL show horse, NEVER an ear back, head always straight up, he is interested in everything, and loves to show. And talk about versatile, Stormy TAUGHT Blu how to drive, and together they amassed so many blues in Open Pleasure Driving, and Friesian Pleasure Driving, as well as Carriage classes, we lost count. Stormy is the kind of horse you can take ANYWHERE, and he always goes with us on family trail rides. We also think Stormy would be an outstanding western pleasure horse, because he has an amazing slow canter. This boy now has a mane almost to his knees, a tail that drags the ground a foot behind him, and he has never had ANY health or soundness issues.

This is a rare opportunity to own one of the best in the country, and it is okay if you would just like to pleasure ride and drive Stormy, a show home is NOT a requirement for this pretty boy, but unconditional LOVE is. Stormy loves his peppermints!
Stormy is a son of the no longer living approved stallion, Jurjen.

Not only do his conformation and gaits impress when he is shown in-hand, he also has won many competitive shows. His great disposition, added to his gaits, helped him win in EVERY division:)

2009 Show Season Started of with a BANG whereby Ron and Stormy won back to back blue ribbons in the Friesian Pleasure Driving division at the Monterey Springfest Horse Show!!

Motherline STER-STER+PREF-MODEL+PREF-MODEL+PREF

see blacksterlingfriesians.com for videos
(details)
