Our farm is converting from gaited
horses to all quarter horse trail
riding. Lightning is a wonderful pony,
and stout enough to hold an average
woman rider. He has a smooth, quick fox
trot, which allows him to ride along
with horses of regular size. As he is
unregistered, we do not know his history
or his exact age, but our vet has
determined him to be 9-10 years old.
Lightning has been on several trail
rides on our farm, which include
traveling through fields, wooded trails
and creeks. He responds well to both leg
and voice aids, and neck rains.
Lightning is great with other horses in
the pasture, and will buddy up to
anyone. He is our ready companion to any
horse who needs one, and is always
submissive and sweet. But he doesn't
seem to get buddy sour, and has been
willing to take solo trail rides. He is
head shy, gets a little nervous at times
when doing ground work, and it takes
time to gain his confidence. But he's
one of those horses that calms as he's
being tacked up, knowing his job and
enjoying the attention. Lightning loads,
ties, stands for farrier, and longes. He
is current on vaccinations and
de-worming, and his hooves are trimmed
by our farrier regularly. No Coggins. He
is max white sabino paint, which means
he is solid white with some black
coloring on his skin (not coat). He has
a few, very small chestnut spots. He is
well-muscled. I would love to see him go
to a family of gaited horse riders, with
a child or petite woman of intermediate
riding skills who needs a strong, steady
mount for family trail rides.
