*** Congradulations to Suzanne S. of
Asheville, NC for bringing this
wonderful horse into her life. We could
not have hoped for a better partnership
with Gunner and look forward to hearing
about his new adventures! Thank you...
and a very sincere thanks to the folks
at Horsetopia for helping wonderful
people like Suzanne find wonderful
horses like Gunner!***
Although
smaller in stature than most
Saddlebreds, this gelding is truly
magnificent in his presence, his
movement, and in his heart!!
With a
mane and tail that would put Fabio to
shame, this gorgeous black-bay gelding
looks like a knight's horse from Camelot
when he comes slowly prancing across the
field.
Interestingly enough...a
Saddlebred sire named Rex McDonald is
one of Gunner's great,great,great
grandsires from Waaaaaay back....and can
you imagine "who" was one of
Rex McDonalds' great, great grandsires?
None other than Justin Morgan.
Although Gunner is a fully registered
American Saddlebred, he is the spitting
image of that handsome Morgan stallion
that was the foundation for so many
breeds early on...including the amazing
Saddlebred. For those of you who are
familiar with the famed Morgan
"personality"...well, Gunner
has that too!
Gunner's dark soulful
eyes will stare deep into you heart and
steal it away if you are not very
careful. But do not be fooled-
"Gunner" is no push-over. He
requires an experienced and CONFIDENT
rider(and someone no taller than
5'3"); someone who is not afraid of
a horse with a playful nature. If you
truly love horses and have are
adventurous, he will become a life-long
companion for you, and will take you far
and long into the sunset, provided you
are fair with him in what you ask.
Gunner will not tolerate poor human
behavior or treatment, as no horse
should, and has been raised in a loving,
caring and NATURAL environment. Gunner
does not carry the typical showhorse
"Baggage" that has sadly given
the Saddlebred such an undeserved
reputation. They are truly a phenomenal
breed; capable and willing, with a heart
that never quits. Then again...none of
our horses are "typical"
Saddlebreds.
Gunner has herded cattle,
jumped logs and barrels, climbed onto
platforms~ this horse is so exceptional,
that those who have come to look at him
have loved him; but most everyone just
wanted him to be "a little bit
bigger." His personality MORE than
makes up for being a little on the short
side! Owell.....that just means that the
Right Person has not come along yet!
I
have ridden Gunner both English and
Western. He has a short back and the
English saddles tend to fit him better.
He is barefoot and has solid, sound feet
with nice concavity and well-formed
frogs. Gunner can be ridden with a
hackamore or a light snaffle bit; he
does not require any more than that with
someone who knows what they are doing.
He also does not require a heavy hand.
He is very responsive to seat position,
rein position, and leg pressure, making
him a suitable candidate for light
dressage. And please...if you are a
dressage rider, do NOT email me asking
for a thousand measurements on him; he
is not perfect. You are more than
welcome to come and measure him
yourself; I'll even provide you with a
measuring tape.
Gunner has nice
movement, but does not have extreme
elevation. He does not show a propensity
for being a 5-gaited horse, so we did
not try to "make" him. His
conformation does not lend itself to
that. He does, however, had a nice even
trot, a slow canter and a flat walk. He
does not have high leg action, but is
very "forward" in his
movement. He is not a "game"
horse. He is more suited for pleasure
and fun riding rather than anything
"too serious." He's not a very
"serious" horse, anyway!
Gunner is easy to handle and loves to be
"fussed over." You will have
people always stopping to ask "What
kind of horse is that?", as he
looks more like a Spanish horse than a
Saddlebred, with his gracefully arched
neck, long mane and tail, and wonderful
personality.
Gunner does not kick or
bite, or have any bad habits, and we've
owned him since he was 18 months old, so
we know him very well. He loves to have
his whiskers trimmed with the clippers,
and will do just about anything for the
rewards of a peppermint. He travels well
and does not get upset going into or
coming out of a trailer. He is very
responsive to Natural horsemanship
techniques, and loves the challenge of
trying to figure out what you're going
to do next. He also has a very high play
drive and loves lots of games. He loves
to be in a herd environment, especially
if you have broodmares and babies- he is
hilarious to watch playing with our
young ones. He is an alpa, but not in an
aggressive way. We call him our
"benevelant dictator."
We
have tons and tons more of pictures of
Gunner, as he loves to show off for the
camera, so please email us. We truly
hope to find a wonderful
"forever" home for him, and
someone who will adore him as much as we
do. With his willingness and
athleticism, he is just one fun horse to
ride. He has an easy trot and is just
the perfect pleasure/trail horse with
his build, temperment and movement.
We are very specific to whom our horses
are sold to, and would rather keep them
with us as to have them go to a
questionable home. We will ask you
personal questions regarding your
finances, dedication and commitment
levels, references, riding and horse
experience, training philosophy, and
anything else that we feel is important
on behalf of Gunner. We may even come to
check out your farm to make sure it is
suitable. If you are not willing to
provide that type of information, please
do not contact us.
