Gina or "Big G" as we call her is a
terrific mare to ride- she is quiet to
work with and if you are looking for a
big hunter type- you really need to
consider this mare. She stands 16.2
hands tall barefoot, she is a lovely bay
with minimal white and is putty in your
hands to work with. You can get her
right out of the stall and ride her- she
does lunge, she clips, loads and gets
her feet done quietly, and you could not
ask for a horse that stands quieter
while bathing. She came to me
underweight and with a terrificly horrid
case of rain rot- at her stature - she
is not an easy keeper, and I have
supplemented her with some weight
builder-to help her maintain. She has
been inspected and is in the Oldenburg
main mare book- so for the breeders out
there- the hard part is already done-
She has some very nice large bone on
her, a terrific head, carries herself
long and low- like a hunter and has some
genuine extension to her gaits -this
mare can move out! She has some very
nice pedigree behind her- Waquoit
daughters are hard to come by - she has
a pedigree that denotes sensibilty and
ability and I believe she would make a
great hunter she is quiet enough-in my
opinion to make a childrens hunter- or a
nice lesson horse while you breed her.
I originally purchased her for an event
prospect- but I feel she is geared to
slow for me (I like them a little
hotter) and she is on the large side.
we have sent her over some crossrails -
and a small vertical and she goes
willingly.
I did consider breeding
her to my Arabian stallion as she does
have some nice bone and I am sure I
would get one heck of an Anglo-Arab- but
there are just too many horses being
bred out there and frankly, I just don't
have time. This mare would be a great
find for someone out there looking for a
nice sane prospect. She has been sound
since she arrived here and has great big
nice feet, and has had no issues other
than trying to put some weight back on
her and the rainrot. I understand she
weaned a foal right before she came to
me - so she has had a foal- for you
breeders out there.
my only
complaints about her - that she can get
pushy at feedtime- she looks like she
would tear the barn down, gets over
excited etc- drives my husband crazy-
but we just ignore her antics and just
get on with the business and she is
fine. I have had her turned out with
other mares and she is not aggressive -
even towards a much younger 2 year old.
please let me know if you would like to
come see her or if you need any further
specific information- I will try and
post some photos soon- weather
permitting.
She is a real steal at
this price if you are willing to brave
the weather you can get a real bargain
before spring and everyone will be
searching harder.
