Caddy is a 6 yr old, 16.1 H. chestnut TB
gelding California-bred by Art Smart out
of Western Fame. Caddy has been on and
off sound for about a year now. He was
retired with a bone chip in his front
ankle which was not removed because it
did not really affect his movement, but
his owners did not want to make it
worse. Three vets we have had look at
him in Maryland have also agreed that
this does not really affect his
movement. It just looks bad. His problem
is his feet. He has a very thin hoof
wall and hardly any sole. They kept very
special (expensive) pads on his feet to
keep him racing sound.I do think that he
would be sound for light pleasure
riding, but I dont think hes going to
hold up for the demands of jumping or
showing. When I have ridden him, he has
been uncomplicated. He has a lovely
canter. Ive ridden him in a Dr. Cooks
bitless bridle and he was very, very
good. Ive taken him on a few trails and
he has never been spooky. He wants to
please you and he love to have a job. I
understand that he always loved to train
at the track. With time and patience, I
think that he is going to make someone a
very special horse. He really bonds with
one person and I think he would do
anything for you.
This horse has
only ever known love on and off the
track. I cant provide him with a home
anymore, so he needs to go somewhere
where he is going to be loved and given
the best retirement. He is UTD on his
shots, has a current Coggins, has been
regularly wormed, has had his feet
trimmed regularly and has had his teeth
done twice. I really want to see him go
to someones home because he would love
to see his human every day!
