In order to sell this mare to her
heart-person, I’m telling this story.
I’m not a horse person. I just love the
spirit of the horse. Oakie ( barn name )
doesn’t have a complicated history in
her 11 years. She was born in MA as a
grey filly with common white markings on
her legs and face. She is registered as
Unforrgettable with the Arabian Horse
Registry of America. Her pedigree is
outstanding with many famous Arabians of
Polish, Crabbet, and Hanstead lines.
Unforrgettable was purchased as a filly,
by a woman, with plans to make her a
simple, riding horse. But as the years
went by, unforeseen events occurred for
the woman and she visited less and less.
In fact, Unforrgettable became far more
attached to the people who fed her
daily, but they came and went too. After
eleven years at the same barn, with no
true human bond,…you know, the kind
horses thrive on,…the woman ran out of
money, and Unforrgettable needed to
vacate the only home she can remember.
That was less than a year ago. We
happened to be doing great in the
economy, and were looking for a mare to
be a companion horse for my senior
Walker. Unforrgettable fit the bill
because she is laid back, healthy, cute
and cooperative. She came home, or at
least what we all thought would be her
home forever. Well, we all know what
happened to the economy. Fortunately,
some people are still doing quite well.
We are ok, but struggling a bit. We need
to cut expenses by selling two of our
four horses. It’s as simple as that. Let
me tell you what I know about Oakie.
Maybe she’s the horse you’re looking
for. #1 super easy keeper #2 barefoot
with superior feet; last trim Oct 2009
#3 dewormed every 2-3 months #4 spring
vaccinations #5 truly submissive to
all other horses #6 excellent for
farrier, veterinarian, etc. #7 gorgeous
movement #8 no health issues. On a
personal note: Oakie is a cute little
mare with a sweet disposition. She’ll
walk slowly over to you and ask to give
soft kisses to your hand, just to say
hello. I see everyday the desire in her
eyes to be spoiled and made THE special
one. I’m not that person. I belong to a
big red TWH. Oakie needs her person. In
a way, I am glad for the economy so that
Oakie might find her/him. Oakie has
spirit and that Arabian will, but at the
same time, she is focused for the task
at hand when her halter is on. I admire
that. Our plans have always been to
start Oakie’s saddle training come
spring, just to have fun with her. Due
to our height versus hers, that training
couldn’t be too extensive! But we know
she would love the one on one attention.
In addition, if anyone wanted to take
advantage of Oakie’s blood lines, we
know for certain that she stands nicely
for a stud. We have one of “those”
geldings. She would pass on her calm
demeanor and solid stature. This girl is
not mare-ish during her heats. Oakie is
an even tempered, get-along, cute little
mare. I want her to find her human. If
you love horses, you know what I mean.
Until then, we’ll take the best care of
her. A couple more things: Oakie loves
standing in the rain, and she puts on a
nice thick winter coat, so if you don’t
have but a run-in shelter, she will be
fine, as long as you don’t have bully
horses. NO bully horses for this sweet
girl, please!
