NAME: Rogue
BREED: Appendix Quarter
Horse
HEIGHT: 16hh
AGE: 5
PRICE:
$2,000
Rogue is a baby doll! Her low
price only reflects her conformational
issue with a "toe out" on one leg. It
absolutely does not reflect her
temperament, soundness, looks or
ability! A young horse as beautiful,
elegant, athletic, safe, sane, kind,
willing and forgiving as she is would
normally be in the $10,000 price range
bracket.
Rogue is "all girl". Very
gentle, sweet and loving. She loves to
be pampered, handled, groomed, bathed or
even just hanging out with people. She
does gravitate toward humans more than
horses, but having said that, she is
just very sweet and gentle with any
horse in the pasture.
Never a
pinned ear or scowl .. she always has
the sweetest expression, and is always
quick to say "hello"! This would be a
perfect mare for somebody who just loves
to hang out with their horses .. she has
a lot of love to give a lucky person or
family. She is very similar in nature
to Mirage, our arabian mare.
She has
wonderful ground manners. She stands
quietly for grooming, bathing, farrier,
vet, tacking up etc. Very quiet and
sane under saddle. Despite the
conformational issue, she is smooth and
willing (and comparatively correct)
under saddle. She is a great horse for
an advanced beginner upwards. She is
lean and leggy, making her ideal for a
junior rider as well as an adult.
She
is soft in the hand, willing to move
forward (although she will be ploddy and
slow for a more nervous rider or a less
skilled rider). She has great brakes,
too! She stands quietly to be mounted
and is not eager to charge off once her
rider is mounted. If anything, she is a
little slow in the beginning and needs a
nice, long warm up in a long and low
frame. She remains very tuned in to her
rider. I have taken her on trails with
other horses, all of us trotting along
at a fairly quick pace. One small
half-halt and Rogue will immediately
hesitate and wait for you to tell her to
either slow down or continue at the
faster pace. This is quite remarkable
for such a young horse, especially when
all the horses around her are going at
full clip. This is one of her best
attributes, in my opinion. There is
nothing better than enjoying a faster
pace trail with your friends, knowing
that you can trust your horse and that
she will stay obedient and tuned into
your commands. A huge safety factor
that is often underestimated.

She is a very typey hunter, both in
her frame, looks and movement. She has
a lovely, smooth, long-strided canter
that is rhythmic and regular. The trot
is dependent upon the rider!!! She can
go slow and smooth, or really lengthen
and move out. She most likely would not
make it far beyond First Level dressage!
She has not been taken over any jumps
at our facility.
A fantastic horse
for local hunter shows (if conformation
is not an issue). She would also make a
great trail horse, family horse or best
friend. She is extremely beautiful, but
she is not papered, therefore I do not
recommend breeding a non-papered mare
due to the burden it places on rescue
facilities nationwide.
Rogue is up to
date on her vaccinations, coggins,
farrier and wormer. She is currently
barefoot and trimmed on a five weekly
basis.
To the best of my knowledge,
Rogue has no history of illness or
injury (bar the "toe out" as described
above). She does not bite, buck, rear,
kick, windsuck, crib, stall walk or show
any other vices EXCEPT she does weave in
her stall! A weave door would be
recommended to help curb this.
Rogue
LOVES her food and is extremely
motivated by it! :-) She is a fairly
easy keeper. She is currently on 2
Scoops of Seminole Blue Ribbon High
Efficiency (12% protein, 8% fat) per
day. She is on approximately 20 hours
grass turnout with approximately 4-6
flakes of T&A Hay per day. She is on a
sand-colic prevention program with all
of our horses and receives bran/mineral
oil/metamucil twice a week. Apart from
electrolytes and daily wormer, at this
time, Rogue is on no other supplements.
Rogue is only 5 years old and although
she has proven herself to be very sane,
intelligent, kind and safe .. she
obviously has some maturing to do. She
could excel even further, I believe,
with a competent and kind hunter
trainer.
Rogue is only for sale to an
approved, loving and permanent home.
She really is a super young horse with
the sweetest temperament. It would be
wonderful to place her into an
appreciative home where her lovely
nature will be welcomed and nurtured.
Please, no inquiries on whether she will
do barrels, jumping over 4' etc. Her
build and her conformation will not be
up to these types of demands. She would
definitely give her all to anybody,
regardless of what she asked -
therefore, it is up to me to protect her
and insure she goes to the most suitable
home. This is the type of mare that
would push herself too far in order to
please her rider, and it is imperative
that she goes to a family who understand
where her limits are and to enjoy her
for the beautiful qualities she has.
This is such a forgiving and sweet mare
that would be tempting for a less
experienced rider to keep on asking or
pushing when she has nothing left to
give. It would be too easy to break her
down or take advantage of her wonderful
temperament. We are looking for a very
special home where somebody will cherish
her, enjoy her and keep her at lower
level shows within her capabilities and
enjoy miles of safe trails with her.
