Dusty is an owner surrender due to them
not having time or funds to care for a
hoof injury. At some point she had had
an abscess and now a good portion of the
hoof wall has died (possibly to a blow
to it or something). The prognosis is
very good however, the farrier feels
that by this summer she will be sound
enough to start light riding again and
by this time next year should be 100%
sound again on that hoof.
The short
version of what will happen to her hoof
is this, the dead sections of hoof will
be cut away and replaced with an epoxy
resin and then a shoe placed on her hoof
for stability until new hoof has a
chance to grow.
As you can see Dusty
is a big solid girl, we suspect there
might be a touch of draft in her...and
she is a gorgeous color, Grulla we
think.
Dusty is greenbroke although
for the time being she must not be
ridden until her hoof recovers.
Dusty is available for adoption now,
we have the farrier scheduled to come
out Oct 28th to fix the hoof so she will
not leave until at the very least that
is done..and even then only with his ok
for her to move.
