We are regretfully offering our
wonderful mare, Penny, for sale to an
approved home only.
Penny is a
kind, gentle, tolerant, and forgiving 9
year old sorrel, appendix Quarterhorse
mare who stands a solid 15.1 hands tall.
Penny has been my 11 year old daughter's
competition partner, trail riding buddy
and friend. Penny has been trustworthy,
reliable, a confidence builder, and we
have many fond memories of the times my
daughter and Penny have shared together.
Penny is rock solid, calm, confident and
as bombproof as a horse can
get.
Penny and our daughter have
competed in numerous playday series
together, winning ribbons, buckles, and
tack. We have been hauling Penny to
playdays every month this year,
competing with my daughter in several
series.
Penny has also ran
barrels in the NBHA and the BBRA,
winning money. Our daughter's very first
time competing at the BBRA, Penny placed
in 3D and won money.
Penny is a
solid 3D runner with our daughter. Our
daughter is not an aggressive rider, she
is very passive, and does not ask Penny
to run hard. Penny runs 2D times when
she is ridden by my daughter's 13 year
old friend, who is a more confident and
aggressive rider.
Penny's
previous owner, a college student, used
to run Penny on barrels and poles; We
purchased Penny when my daughter, who
was at the time a beginner rider, was
showing interest in playdays and speed
events.
Penny is a "push" type
of horse, not a free runner, and she
will go as fast as her rider asks for.
Penny will run fast enough for an
experienced, aggressive rider, and she
will also run her patterns slowly and
calmly for a timid beginner or child.
Penny does what her rider asks and is
calm and confident the entire time.
Penny is responsive, and very
athletic. Her conformation is built for
speed. She works well off her hind end
with a lot of push, she reaches far out
in front, and she has a large stride.
She sits and pops a turn on a dime, has
good bend and flex, and a nice whoa. She
has a soft mouth and runs speed events
in a snaffle bit.
Penny's lead
changes on the poles are flawless and
she is currently running 23-24 second
pole patterns with her novice rider.
When Penny is competing, she
does not jig, does not threaten to rear
or buck, she does not prance or pace,
she is not sour, and she has no alley or
gate issues. Penny has never tried to
run off with her rider, no matter how
inexperienced the rider. Penny stops
when she is asked, even in the middle of
running a speed event pattern. Penny
does not get excited or worked up before
her runs, she stands quietly and
patiently outside of the arena and will
walk all the way into the arena calmly
and stand there if she is asked. Penny
knows all the speed events patterns, but
she won't run them without directing
her. You can pull her off the patterns
without even a hint of a fight. Penny
runs in large arenas and small arenas
well. She doesn't care about soft or
hard ground, she is confident in indoor
arenas, outdoor arenas, poorly lit
arenas, and running at night. She hasn't
spooked or shyed at a single arena yet -
nothing bothers her. She doesn't care
about banners, barrel colors, flags,
music, cattle in the pens at the alley,
etc. She is as confident as one could
want in a performance horse, and very
sure footed too.
Penny is also a
very good trail riding horse. Penny has
many miles of trail riding experience,
safely carrying our daughter, as well as
beginner adult riders. Penny doesn't
spook, and she will ride out nicely in a
group, in the front leading the way, in
the middle, or at the rear of the pack,
and doesn't try to get in the front of
the group or run faster, as so many
speed events horses do. She is happy to
ride in whatever position or at whatever
speed you ask for. She will walk lazily
just as willingly as she will lope.
Penny will go through high brush, under
low branches, will cross water, goes
over logs, and ride up and down through
ravines. Penny also swims with our
daughter at the lake, just bareback and
in a halter.
Penny lives on 10
rocky acres and doesn't require any
special care or shoeing. She is an easy
keeper, and maintains her sleek, fit
appearance, with no weight issues.
Penny has strong, healthy hooves and
does not require shoes. She is very
healthy, and she has not been sick or
lame. Penny is up to date on farrier
care, vaccinations, teeth floating and
deworming. She is easy to catch, she
stands tied perfectly, is good for the
vet and farrier, clips and bathes well,
and loads and travels in a trailer like
a dream. She eats and drinks well on the
road. She gets along well with other
horses, and isn't dominant or
aggressive. We cannot tell when she is
in season, so she is not mare-ish at
all. Penny has no issues, quirks or
vices.
Penny enjoys attention
and loves to be groomed and hugged. She
is a people friendly horse.
We
wish to place Penny in a good, loving
home where she will be cared for and
appreciated the way that she deserves.
We will be selective and will not just
sell her to anyone. We also will require
that the buyer sign a buy-back contract
agreeing to contact us first, if Penny
should ever need to be placed in another
home, which will give us the right to
repurchase Penny.
Vet checks are
welcome at the buyers expense, and you
are welcome to contact our vet regarding
Penny's health history. A copy of
Penny's vet records will be provided to
the buyer.
Unfortunately we were
unable to obtain transfer papers on
Penny, so we must sell her without her
AQHA papers.
Please, no trades.
If we could afford to keep another
horse, we would never sell Penny.
