Stormy is a comming 3 yr old black and
white pinto mare. I got her from some
friends of mine, who got a nice riding
gelding for a good price. They decided
not to keep Stormy, and instead, find
someone who would like to train her to
ride. Stormy is halter broke and big
enough to start under saddle. I feel she
would be suited for most western events.
I have never taped her, but I estimate
her to be around 14hh.
With the
little work I have been able to do with
her, I believe she is a pretty fast
learner. Stormy had been attacked by a
bear before my friends got her, and
although her bear scratches healed up
nicely, she is a little shy at times.
Due to this negative experience, I would
be a little more cautious when
introducing trails after she is broke to
ride. At the very least, have an
experienced rider take her out a few
times, to make sure she doesn't shy at
"bear smell". Stormy has come quite a
ways on overcomming her shyness since I
have had her. At first, I always had to
have grain just to be able to grab her
halter to catch her. Now, most of the
time, I can just walk up to her in the
pasture, and catch her.
My plan
was to rehabilitate Stormy and another
mare I had aquired, and train them to
ride. I ended up with not enough time
this summer, and some other things came
up, that were beyond my control. I can't
stand the thought of these two nice
mares just standing around in my
pasture, when the right person has to be
out there somewhere, that can gain these
girls' trust, and give them a productive
job to do!
Both Stormy and her
friend are free to the right homes. You
can take one or the other, or both. They
need to go to someone with enough time
to spend with them, or the resources to
send them to an appropriate trainer. I
have neither at this point, and finding
homes for these two girls will still
leave me with 4 horses to
love!
