Ernie has been with us for 8 years. He
is a welch/and looks like shetland cross
and the companion to our Percheron.
What a pair they make. Anyway, we
bought him at age 3-4yrs for our 8 yr
old daughter, we use him for childrens
pony rides at preschools, etc. Ernie
does not bite or kick, he will not hurt
a child at all! He does not spook at
all, for anything, nothing scares him!
I have ridden him in from the pasture
w/halter and lead line only in a full
blown thunderstorm with chains and
buckets hanging off him and he does not
flinch. He goes through water and trail
rides. He rides english and western.
We've used him in the Christmas parades
in Englewood and North Port, decorated
and lead or ridden by the children. He
loads HIMSELF-just show him the door,
bathes, is good for the farrier and vet
- no problems ever. He gets along with
all horses and other animals.
He does
require an intermediate rider or an
advanced beginner if he is ridden alone,
he can tell the differnece between
rider's levels! A young child with
strong arms will handle him fine.
But
in hand for pony rides and lead-line at
the shows he has nothing but the best
manners in all 8 yrs we have had him,
always stands still for the little
riders, solid. Ernie was used for
handicapped children for therapy riding
in Sarasota when we bought him.
He
will also join in the picnic with you
and eat his own hotdog when its all
over.
He is an easy keeper, sound,
good feet always, never lame, no shoes,
fine even during rainy season when the
other horses might get an abcess, he has
never had any health issues. We will
give full disclosure of veterinary
records to serious inquires, our horses
are very well cared for and we spare no
exspense in any medical treatment they
need, though in Ernie's case, nothing
has ever been wrong. The only trouble
you'll have is his smarts. He is sneaky
and gets out when you're not looking,
he's easy to catch though, you'll just
find him in your back yard eating the
dog food.
