Strider is a 13 year-old overo paint
gelding out of Rocky Delight and Little
Jo Patches. He has halter and roping
lines going back to Playin Hooky,
Ranchita Plaudit, Chief Moore, Will
Play, and Jim Bar Pondie. Strider is
green broke because he has stifle
problems in both his back legs and has
had difficulties adjusting to partial
blindness in his right eye. Due to
these issues he CAN be spooky, but when
he is in a place he feels safe he is
often calm. He would need veterinary
care to fix his back legs, but he has
halter horse potential. As is he would
make a great companion horse. Strider
loves people and other horses and is
extremely friendly. He is also very
intelligent, loves to please, and will
work to the best of his ability.
Currently he is not able to be ridden
for more than thirty minutes at anything
faster than a trot due to stiffness in
his stifles. He is probably not safe
for young children to be around because
he can be unpredictably spooky. He
lifts his front hooves fine for the
farrier and has had shoes. Because of
his stifling he cannot lift his back
legs, but he will try. He also loads
well.
We are looking for a good
home that will respect him and be
willing to work with his physical
problems. This is not a beginner horse;
Strier needs calm, patient, experienced
handlers. If at all possible, we will
be placing him and not simply selling
him. Strider is a loving and lovable
horse, and we want the best for him.
