Cody is best described as a beautiful,
smooth riding, spirited gelding. He is
90% Arabian, and is double *Ansata Ibn
bred. Having a 50/50 spot pattern he is
flashy enough to go in the show ring.
This horse is talented enough to do
anything you want to train him for. He
is very intelligent, learns quickly and
wants to please.
I bought Cody for a
training project from a local Arabian
breeder when he was 4 years old. Cody
was well taken care of, handled very
properly and had good foundation
training such as lungeing and standing
tied quietly.
Although Cody was very
friendly at this time he was also very
independent. As I spent time training
him he has become very personable,
willing and responsive. Until learning
set in, training was a chore whereas now
it is a pleasure.
When I first
purchased him, this typical Arabian had
a terrible fear of things that blew in
the wind, especially plastic bags which
led to spooking and bolting. I have paid
special attention to this problem and he
is much better and will continue to
improve with more experience.
Cody
handles well on dirt trails with and
without other horses. Surprisingly, this
mount crosses bridges and goes through
water without hesitation or
excitement.
Being completely sound,
surefooted and having hard hooves, he
has never been shod. I have ridden him
on blacktop roads while cars passed me
from both directions, some not slowing
down a bit. Other drivers might wave out
the window or honk their horn. Cody
never flinched, but he sure attracted a
lot of attention. While he has spooked
some at large noisy machinery,
improvement is very evident and he is
learning to quickly settle
down.
Being Arabian, he is more
spirited than your typical pleasure
riding Quarter horse, so he is not
recommended for beginners or children.
Cody has been taught the voice
commands to Walk, Trot, Canter, Whoa
(slow down), and Stand. He neck reins as
well as direct reins and is very
responsive to leg cues as well. He will
turn on front or hind in standing
position with just leg cues. He backs up
very well, often with only a slight leg
cue. I have ridden him around our
farmstead and outbuildings bareback with
only a lead loosely looped around his
neck. He will walk, trot extended and
slow down to a very fluid more collected
trot. In short, this horse goes where I
want him to. Cody has very smooth gaits.
Although I am a novice at English
riding, I believe he would be excellent
at dressage or other English riding
events.
Besides being smooth he has
great endurance. Even in the hot, humid
summers of Missouri, he has the energy
to keep on going while many a Quarter
Horse would tire.
This spring I have
put a lot of miles on Cody riding him
out to far fields checking cattle. He is
calm and relaxed when rounding up cows
to bring home, often through muddy
ditches and under trees. He is very
patient, walking slowly for older cows
and young calves.
Cody is not a
problem horse but can be very quick at
times so experienced gentle hands are a
must. This beautiful, sensitive horse
can be ruined in little time by a rider
with heavy hands and unbalanced seat.
The Lady I purchased Cody from, wanted
to be sure she was selling her horse to
someone with the experience and patience
the Arabian Horse requires. I am looking
for the same.
