Dakota is an 12 year old grey Quarter
Horse. 15.2 Hands and a beautiful
mover. Bred for pleasure and trained
for reining.
With a skilled
rider, he would be suitable for
dressage, team penning and reined cow
horse. He is really an "all around"
horse with trail riding, fitting and
showmanship and so on.
Lots of
buttons because of his training. Quick
stops, nice spins, great roll-backs.
Alot of round pen and natural
horsemanship training. Very good ground
manners and is easy to work around. He
is a quiet horse, yet very sensitive to
what the rider wants him to do. No major
injuries, always been sound.
He
would make a great first reining horse
for someone who already knows how to
ride and is looking for a reiner. He
has 9 months professional reining
training at Summerwind Farm (Bob LaPorta
and Dutch Chapman) in Maryland in the
year 2000 per his previous owner.

Previous owner showed five
seasons with Dakota in local reining
shows, western pleasure, trail and some
NRHA. In reining, Dakota earned Green
Horse and Green Rider Championships,
Rookie, Ladies & Novice Horse
Championships. In western pleasure he
was either champion or reserve champion
at the local shows.
He has an
NRHA membership ID under his previous
owner. She rode him in “green horse”
and “green rider” divisions. In 2001,
his previous owner showed him in Green
Rider and Green Horse divisions in the
Yankee Reining Horse Association in NY,
where they won the champion for both
divisions. In 2003, they were Rookie
champion, and Novice Horse Non Pro
Reserve Champion in the Central New
York Reining Horse Association. In
2004, his previous owner, rode Dakota
and was named the Ladies Champion for
the Yankee Reining Horse Association.
He has had five show seasons with Green
Horse and Green Rider Championships,
Rookie, Ladies & Novice Horse
Championships in reining.
Dakota
was bred for pleasure and trained for
reining. He is a lot of round pen and
natural horsemanship training per his
previous owner. He was shown a lot in
2004 and 2005 at western at local open
shows where his previous owner placed
champion or reserve champion at every
one.
I am his second owner, a
beginner rider, and I have found that
Dakotas' training exceeds my
abilities. He was very patient with my
riding skills and has been a lesson
horse for me for two years.
I
recently had him undergo reining
training for 30 days with lessons for
me so that I could learn the reining
cues. Great training experience for us
both. He has been back home for 3
weeks and I have only ridden him 3
times. I just do not have the
schedule/time available for him and
getting ready for shows and such.
Hence, I would like to find him a home
that will show him and use him for the
skills he has.
Both of my
daughters (ages 9 and 11 y.o.) have
ridden him. Could be a great horse for
a youth reiner. Looking for a home
that can truly use this horse for the
training that it has.
Dakota
loves to be loved and will run to greet
you at the fence. Gets along with all
other horses. Easy to clip, haul, vet
and farrier. Great ground
manners.
