"Eddie" is a 3 year old gelding. I ride
him bareback right now. He has been
saddled with no trouble. I would say he
would do fine with a 9 year old rider
and up. He is easy to handle, gentle,
and very pretty. My plans are to start
him under harness soon. He follows me
around like a puppy. No bad habits. Very
healthy and loveable.
UPDATE:
FEB 18 2010 Eddie has grown over the
winter. Id say hes close to 12HH. His
little black feet have taken the frozen
ground well. Ive been giving him a
horse cookie every morning, so he greets
me at the gate. He is an easy keeper
too because between him and Molly the
Mule, they have only gone through 2
round bales of grass hay, and just a
handful of grain daily. When the
weather breaks I want to find a cob
sized harness and hook him up to the two
wheeled cart. Last fall I was riding
him around the farm and doing some light
trail. He is big enough a 15" barrel
saddle fits him pretty good with a small
girth. Im 140 lbs so he can carry me
with no problem. He accepts a full cheek
snaffle and whoas real good. I also
longe him both ways. I put him in the
round pen and ground drove him with long
lines. He took to that real well. He is
mannerly when handling his feet. He
does not nip or get pushy either. He
respects my personal space, which I feel
is very important for a childs horse. I
think he would do well with an older
child, say 9 years old and up. If they
were any younger, i would suggest that
an adult lead-line him for safety. For
being a three year old, I think he is
doing very well. Thanks for looking.
